In order to achieve their 2030 vision of broadening their mobility options beyond traditional vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, and airplanes, Honda has plans to introduce flying cars and reusable rockets to their portfolio.
The eVTOL from Honda will incorporate the technologies that the company has accumulated thus far. This aircraft will be able to vertically take off and land in urban areas, thanks to its compact and silent electric motors. For longer trips, it can transition to a gas turbine engine.
Honda is currently working on a reusable rocket technology inspired by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The purpose of this system is to launch satellites at low altitudes, and it will be designed to have some of its components land and be reused after each launch.
In collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), they are working on a “circulative renewable energy system” that utilizes their hydrogen fuel cell advancements to produce electricity. This technology has potential applications in lunar exploration, among other uses.
